Hair that behaves on the days you have no time

Bright Grove is a four-chair salon. Every appointment starts dry, in daylight, with a proper conversation about how you actually wear your hair — then we cut and colour for that, not for the mirror.

Colour guide

Which colour service you actually need

Most people book the biggest service on the list when a smaller one would do. Read across these three before you choose — the upkeep column matters more than the price.

Gloss only

Your colour is fine but flat, brassy after summer, or the ends look dull against the roots.

Best for
Hair that has been coloured before and needs tone, not lift.
Time in the chair
45 minutes, easy on a lunch break.
Upkeep
Every 6 – 8 weeks, and it grows out invisibly if you stop.

Face-frame or partial

You want to look lighter in photographs without committing to a full head of maintenance.

Best for
First-time colour, or growing out an older full highlight.
Time in the chair
Two hours including the tone and finish.
Upkeep
Every 10 – 14 weeks. Skipping one visit is not obvious.

Full balayage

You are after a real shift in depth through the mid-lengths and ends, held over a year.

Best for
Hair in good condition with the time for a long appointment.
Time in the chair
Three to four hours. Bring something to read.
Upkeep
A gloss at 8 weeks, repainting at 4 – 6 months.

First visit

What happens, in order

Nothing about a first appointment should be a surprise, so here is the whole sequence — including the one thing you need to do before you arrive.

Quiet salon interior with four styling chairs, tall mirrors and daylight from a shopfront window
Four chairs, one colour station, and daylight we check every shade against.
01

Patch test, 48 hours ahead

Any colour service needs a skin test at least two days before, even a gloss. Pop in during opening hours — it takes two minutes and there is no charge.

02

Dry consultation

We look at your hair as you wear it, unwashed is genuinely more useful, and agree the service and the final price before anything starts.

03

The appointment

Colour is applied at the station, processed, then washed and cut. You will be offered a treatment only if the hair needs one.

04

Finish & home care

We finish the way you would at home, at your speed, and write down which products matter and which you can skip.

Stylists

Who is in the chair beside you

Three of us take bookings. If you are not sure who to ask for, describe your hair in the enquiry and we will put you with whoever suits it best.

Noor Ellery

Owner & colourist

Opened Bright Grove after a decade doing colour correction, which is why the book has so much room for consultations.

  • Balayage and lived-in blondes
  • Grey blending without a hard line
  • Two-sitting colour corrections

Tam Ridout

Senior stylist

Cuts almost everything dry first. Ask for Tam if your hair has a strong cowlick or grows in three directions at once.

  • Bobs, crops and short shapes
  • Curtain layers and fringes
  • Fine hair that needs weight left in

Priya Sandoval

Stylist, curl specialist

Works curl by curl and finishes without a brush. Happy to talk through a wash routine that takes under ten minutes.

  • Waves, curls and coils
  • Diffused and air-dried finishes
  • Bond and moisture treatments

Good to know

Questions we get asked most

Do I really need a patch test for a gloss?
Yes — any service with dye in it, including a clear gloss, needs a skin test at least 48 hours before. It is a small dot behind the ear, it costs nothing, and without it we cannot start the colour on the day.
Should I wash my hair before I come in?
Please don't, especially for a first visit or a colour. Day-two hair shows us the natural parting, the oil balance at the roots and how the ends behave. For a blow-dry only, either way is fine.
What happens if I run late?
Let us know and we will do what the remaining time allows — usually that means the cut happens and the treatment moves to next time. Past 20 minutes on a long colour we will normally rebook you, because a rushed application shows for months.
Why is the price a "from" price?
Length and density change how much product and time a service takes, so a mid-back balayage is not the same job as a chin-length one. We quote the exact figure at the dry consultation, before anything is mixed, and it does not move after that.
Can you cut children's hair?
We cut from around age eight, when sitting still for 30 minutes is realistic, and we keep those appointments to the quieter morning slots. We don't colour under-16s.
How much notice do you need to cancel?
24 hours for a cut and 48 for anything over two hours, simply because a long colour slot is hard to refill. Tell us as early as you can and there is never a fuss; short-notice changes may mean we ask for a deposit next time.
Can I bring a reference photo?
Always, and bring two or three rather than one. Photos of hair you have loved on yourself are even more useful than photos of someone else, and we will tell you honestly how close we can get in one visit.

Tell us about your hair

Send this and we will reply with two or three times that fit, plus the patch-test window if your service needs one. It is a request, not a confirmed booking.

Helpful to include

Your current length, when you were last coloured and roughly what you did at home if it was a box colour. It changes what we can safely do in one sitting.

Reply times

Enquiries are answered Tuesday to Saturday while the salon is open. Anything sent on Sunday or Monday is picked up first thing Tuesday.

Waiting list

If the week you want is full, say so in the notes and we will hold you for cancellations — those often come up two or three days ahead.

We reply here with the times we have open.
